We just wanted to update you on how "Doon" is doing. She has settled into her new home very well. She has accepted us as her new family and we love her very much. She sleeps in our daughter's bedroom on the pull out bed, and wakes us up every morning with loving kisses. She goes for walks every day and brings so much joy to our family. We've barely heard a peep out of her! She is always happy. We know she was loved at the Guelph Humane Society and was sad to leave at first, but we're glad she chose us to be her forever family. We try to give her as much love and attention as she has given to us. Please be reassured that Doon is doing really well and is being treated like a princess. We hope you like the pictures!
I had to send you some pics of your hen in her new home. She is very
friendly, you can see her (Omlette) sleeping outside our bedroom window. Enjoy!

We recently lost Kasey, our much loved Torti. We had decided to take a "time out" before choosing
new cat, however we saw a picture of a Torti on the GHS website whose name was Wookie.
We took a moment to come by the shelter to meet her and were startled by how much Wookie looked
like our recently departed Kaysey...right down to the one white whisker in the same place as Kasey did.
We visited for quite a while; and although she was small and positively anorexic ( 5 lbs ) we told Michelle at the shelter we wished to adopt her. Michelle cautioned us that they were having trouble getting Wookie to eat so she wanted us to wait a while to see if she could gain weight. She also wanted to do some blood tests to ensure there was nothing seriously wrong with her. We agreed but went home looking forward to the day we could bring her home. After our visit we later learned from Michelle that Wookie began to eat normally so somehow she seemed to know she had to begin eating if she wanted to come home with us. A little less than a week later she was eating well and Michelle reluctantly allowed us to take her home even though the results of the blood test had not come back. So we "Posted Bail" and Wookie came to her new home in Acton. She was still very much under weight, quiet, and nervous. The moment she entered the house she went on an extensive tour of the house and within a couple of hours had investigated every nook and cranny of the house inhaled her first meal, then curled up for a nice nap. She has since completely taken over the house and eats constantly so at this writing could not be described as being anorexic. She also talks a blue streak and is constantly giving us new sets of instructions. You might guess that Wookie did not work for us so we tried a new name but that didn't work either and we found our selves frequently calling her Kasey. Since our tendancy was to call her by her predecessors name we thought she can be "Casey Too" but she will answer to Casey. Problem Solved ! Being little more than a kitten she is constantly playing which typically consists of committing cold blooded murder on a few carpets, playing with an assortment of balls and to be honest just about anything that gets in her way. So now a couple of weeks later Casey spends her time most of her time eating and playing and eating and eating and playing and eating and sleeping and eating and.........Well you get the idea !!!!!!
THANK YOU GUELPH HUMANE OUR HOME IS A HAPPIER PLACE NOW ! YOU DO WONDERFUL THINGS FOR ANIMALS AND HUMANS.

Some of you may remember me as Mikey. I was the quiet little guy who was pretty shy while I was at the GSPCA. I wasn't on the adoption side very long before my dads came to love me, and brought me into their home. I fell in love immediately, and made their place my own. I have put on a few pounds since living with them (they are very good at rewarding me on jobs well done). I was slightly underweight as well, so I definitely could have used some TLC in the form of treats. I have since shown them my true personality. I am funny, happy, and most of all very sleepy. You can find me a lot of the times falling asleep while standing up and gently resting my head on many things (chair rails, feet, shoes, or even the couch). I am very active now, and start my days off very early with a walk, and end my evenings with a walk or run. I have made some new friends along the way (including a 14 year old shihtzu named Bennie). I get so much attention, not only from my new family, but anyone walking down the street. Everyone wants to stop and talk and find out my story. Hopefully this will promote more loving families to do what mine have done. I wanted to thank the Guelph SPCA for taking such great care of me, and helping find me my new forever home. I can't express how happy my dads are, and I know they speak about it to everyone who will lend an ear. I hope this reaches out to other families who are thinking about adding a new addition to their lives, as I can't begin to tell you how rewarding it feels. Lots of love, Mikey !

Hello,
This is Lady here (aka Braskey). I thought that I should send you a message to tell you how I am doing since I left the GHS on June 19, 2000. As you can see on the picture taken June 20, 2010 I am doing really good. On June 19, 2010 I got to eat a can a tuna in water to celebrate my anniversary and it was very very yummy.
The other pictures were taken a few days later.
I am 13 now, so I am a bit stiff sometimes and I have to take pills every other day (I hate that!) but other than that I am doing really well and I enjoy going into my backyard when my mom lets me.
Thank you for taking care of me.
Lady

Hello GHS
Harlan and Molly have settled right in here at their new home. With their adoption dates staggered by a few days Harlan (the 2 YR male) was home first and settled in very quickly; making sure he was the spoiled boy of the house. Then when Molly came home a week following (10 week old kitten) we kept them apart until Molly's stitches from her spayed had healed. After five agonizing days of crying between the doors, we finally let them meet! It was a slow start, but they finally realized how much they loved each other and now are inseparable! We would just like to thank the GHS for all that they do, we are very happy to have adopted two loving and affectionate cats who have made our home warm and furry!

Hey there,
I'm writing to give an update on how Daisy is doing since I adopted her just about 3 weeks ago. She is doing wonderfully in her new home, she's such a happy girl, and I should add a good girl as well. I was expecting her to have some problems handling the adjustment to her new home, but other than occasionally grabbing some dirty socks and making me chase her around the house, she has been perfect.
We just got home from our first trip up to our cottage, she loved all the new sights and smells that the forest had to offer. She was especially intregued by a big woodpecker, I don't think she quite understood why he was making such a racket. So far she doesn't seem to want to swim, but she has waded in to her belly to cool off.
Daisy has also found her voice, while she was at the shelter she never seemed to bark (at least when I was there) but now she will bark at all sorts of things. I'm sure with some practice she can learn when its appropriate to bark, but I'm glad that she is behaving like a normal young dog.
I'm also happy to report that she has had no problems with her stomach since I have had her. Thank you so much for being there to give Daisy and all kinds of other creatures a second chance, and I hope that Daisy is only one of many success stories you will hear over the years.
I've attached a few pictures of her playing in the yard and having a bath.
Thanks again,
Alex

Hello everyone at the Guelph Humane Society,
This April, we adopted our wonderful little puppy whom we named Otis. (formerly Patches)
He is such a cute and clever little boy! When we first saw him in his cage at the humane society, he was jumping up and banging his head against the top of the cage and shredding newspaper. We just couldn't get over how adorable he was and we love puppies with energy, so we adopted him. You would be surprised though. Now, he actually isn't as hyper as he portrayed himself to be! He is always wanting to play and go for walks. Once we tire him out, he will fall fast asleep on his bed (or one of ours). Otis is very intelligent too. He learned how to sit almost immediately and within a couple of days, we taught him how to ring the bell on the door when he wants to go out. He has also learned to be the boy who cried wolf. Sometimes, he will ring the bell, so we take him outside. He will then pull on the leash towards the field behind our house where we walk him. Once we get to the edge of the field and try to turn around to take him back inside, he will just flop down on the ground and lie there. He acts as if he is a little kid who has to go home from the park and doesn't want to go. We then have to pick him up and carry him back inside.
Otis loves when guests come over as well. He gets very hyper when people come to visit and so far, everyone he meets loves him and he loves them. He has had many funny moments so far. One day, I left an apple on the floor near the door. I walked into the mudroom to go find him and he was holding the apple in his mouth by the stem! One of his favourite things to do is wake people up in the morning. We call him the Oatie alarm clock and he is the world's best alarm clock because you can't possibly fall back to sleep. He starts by jumping onto your bed and walking all over you and then he starts licking your face. As you can see, we absolutely love our newest family member!
We have attached a picture of him. Thank for giving us the best little dog we could ever wish for,
Jill, Ben, Robin, Naomi & Tim

HI there,
I just wanted to send a quick update on Rainbow (I kept her name). I adopted Rainbow from the shelter in December 2009. She is a fantastic cat and I love her so much. She is a little older (8 years), but she has so much energy. She LOVES to cuddle and get right under the blanket with me and give me hugs. She has a great personality and she likes to talk! The only thing she doesnt like is to get her nails cut-but who could blame her! She also likes to eat ribbon-and seeing as it was Christmas time when I brought her home, there was ribbon everywhere! I had to quickly ribbon-proof my apartment! I recently moved home for the summer and my mom has taken to Rainbow so much so that she purchased a leash and takes her for walks in the backyard. Rainbow hasnt had any problems with her damaged ear, other than the occaisonal wax buildup.
I just want to thank the Guelph Humane Society. Rainbow is a very special cat and I dont know what I would do without her.
Thanks again,
Katie

Hello everyone at Guelph Humane Society!
I'm happy to let you all know that Pixel (formerly Lily!) is doing fantastic in her new forever home! As soon as I put Pixel in the car to come home she laid down on the seat and fell asleep. This has become her routine in the car, which is absolutely fine with me and anyone in the car with us! She is still a little bit shy around people, but is quickly learning to enjoy a good belly rub and ear scratch! We've discovered as well that she loves Pig Ears and Liver Treats.
She already knows how to sit, stay and come on command, and has been incredible respectful of our cat, Freyja. Often they can both be found snuggled on the couch or on the bed at night while I read. Pixel is great on walks, and took to being on a leash right away. We didn't have to house break her at all which makes me believe that she was, at some point, owned by someone.
On the second day with us, I brought Pixel to the dog park at Bechtel Park here in Kitchener and she completely came out of her shell there. She was very polite with the other dogs, and very patient with the hyper puppies. She loves to run and is very often the fastest dog at the park when she gets them all going - a point of pride for us! She has started to gain some weight thankfully, so her skinny little ribs don't stick out anymore, and it's given her tons of endurance to challenge other dogs to races and wrestling matches at the park.
Yesterday Pixel had her first experience swimming, and while she was cautious at first (not sure what the water was all about) eventually she threw caution to the wind and dove right into the water! We're still working on fetching and playing with toys as she isn't quite sure what that's all about yet but she's got some fantastic doggy friends that are a wonderful influence and have already helped tremendously! She loves finding the perfect stick at the dog park and laying down to enjoy a good chew, but doesn't get defensive or aggressive at all when other dogs come to investigate her find. In fact, Pixel has shown more patience than most dogs I've ever met. Even when dogs take sticks from her she'll think of it as a game more than anything. It is great to see that she doesn't have an aggressive bone in her body! She is also very quiet! We've only heard her bark three times since bringing her home, and all three were at the cat, who was trying to get into Pixel's crate - haha!
Thank you so much, GHS, for all your love towards her while she was with you, I'm sure it was a big factor in her rehabilitation with people.
Sincerely: Caryn, Eric, Pixel and Freyja!

Hello to all at the Guelph Humane Society!
I can't believe how quickly the time has gone by, but it's been about a month since my partner and I have had Ginny (previously April) with us! She has been nothing but wonderful, and seemed to fit in perfectly at our home from the moment she flopped herself on the bed.
She is incredibly smart, and has learned to lie down, fetch, and give our cat Chloe the respect she demands!
Since being to the vet and getting updated on the rest of her vaccinations, she has been on many trips to the dog park, which she LOVES! We go for hikes and she's learning to stay with us off-leash.
We are constantly stopped on the street by people commenting on how beautiful she is, and her beauty really resides as much internally as it does externally. I only hope she feels half as lucky to have us as we do to have her!
Thank you so much for taking care of her before she found her forever home!
Rachel, Colin, and Ginny
Oh, I'm sure Chloe the cat thanks you too! :)
Dear Guelph Humane Society:
I was looking for a cat to share my home with. Someone to liven the place up. When my daughter called me from the humane society to tell me about a grey tabby named Dexter, I knew I had to see him for myself.
It was love at first sight! I knew he was the man for me.
It has been about a week since "Dex" moved in. I didn't realize what I had been missing. He took to the house immediatly. He makes friends with all our house guests, and loves to play. Within hours he had found "his place" in our home. His best friend... "bunny".
Thank you for helping me find my new room mate! He's a pretty swell guy.
Sincerely: Victoria
Hello there. I've been meaning to send you a heart-felt thank you for some time now.
I've attached a picture of my dog, doodle. she is 9 now... eight years ago, when i was still living in guelph, i happened into your shelter one day and there was this dog. she was called 'lacy' at the time. well, one look at this face and i fell in love! we've been together ever since, and i can't imagine my life without this adorable little dog. we moved to vancouver together, she loves the outdoor life and doesn't mind the occasional kayak ride.
Thank you for bringing the two of us together.

Hello,
I adopted Kissyfur nearly a year ago. She adapted immediately to our home and quickly became friends with our other cat, Tigger.
I entered her in the College Royal cat show and she won 2 categories. Attached are pictures.

Just a quick message to let you know that Elmo (now Winthrop) and Oreo (now Gustav) are doing fabulously together in their new home. They are fun, super-gentle, affectionate. We love them and our daughter Francesca has found two perfect playing companions. The endless chases and rolling around are infinitely entertaining. Gustav is also a great companion for Winthrop, who - we suspect - would otherwise sit around most of the day. Thank you sooooo much for helping with the adoption process and for giving us these two splendid cats!
Sandra

Dear GHS Staff and Volunteers,
I just wanted to email you and update about my most recent adoption (and my previous one) since seeing happy endings is always great. I’ll start with my first…I adopted Eve (pronounced “Eva”, used to be Cassie) back in July 2009. She was my first kitten ever and she was (and still is) quite a handful. She is the most chatty cat I think I have ever met, so much so that we have full conversations when I get home from work at the end of the day and especially in the morning with how long I must be taking to make her breakfast!
As she grew (she will be 1 year old on Friday), we decided that it was time to get her a brother to keep her company and also to help another deserving animal find a home. So we looked on the website and picked out four cats. MacGyver (was Holden) was one of them that won us over. He seemed to have been there the longest and when we saw him in his cage, he looked so sad and as my boyfriend put it “sick of being here”. We adopted him and brought him home. We were worried at first because of Eve and her slightly spoiled nature. We kept them separate for a few days and MacGyver only came out from under my bed to drink and use the litter box. Although, after a few more days (of Eve sitting at the doorway, head sideways, meowing out to him) he finally came out. Over the last two weeks, we have been working hard to make him feel welcome and MacGyver and Eve have been playing (what seems to be non-stop). He is fitting in quite well and has even joined Eve in criticizing Mommy in the morning with how long I apparently must take to make their breakfast. Another favourite activity of MacGyver’s (and we’re sure he learned it from Eve), is to take Daddy’s chair after he gets up to get something before he comes back.
Anyway, I just wanted to email you to let you know that they are doing great. It was a hard road, but it’s looking a lot brighter the longer time goes on.
Thank you for everything that you do and thank you for giving me the opportunity to adopt two great cats.
Amy

Hello to all the wonderful Humane Socety staff and volunteers.
I just wanted to send an update on Sierra (Sept 2009). In the five months since we brought Sierra home she has settled beautifully into our family. She has gotten better on the walk, and the additon of a halti has helped with the pulling quite a bit. We're trusting her on the long lead more and occasionally let her go off leash in the back yard well away from the road. The kids love her and enjoy playing with her as well. The scars from her surgery are barely visible and her coat has pretty much grown back in at the site, making them even less obvious unless you know what to look for.
We do need to work more on socialization, and will look at opportunities for this once the weather warms up. I have attached a couple of pictures of our girl. Thank you again to the Humane Society for this wonderful addition to our family. We can't imagine life without her now.
Sincerely,
Melissa

This is a picture of DeDe (formerly Delilah), the beautiful cat that we adopted for our grandma in November 2009. Our grandma had a cat for many years, but lost him last spring due to old age. We knew she needed another companion animal, as she lives on her own. Our grandma was reluctant to start over with another kitten, as she didn't think she could manage an active pet. However, we noticed that since the loss of her cat she was not eating or sleeping as well, and her blood pressure had gone back up. We convinced our grandma to come with us to the Guelph Humane Society and check out what was available. The wonderful volunteer staff immediately directed us to Delilah, a senior cat. It was love at first cuddle. Grandma immediately wanted to take her home. It has now been a few months since DeDe has come to her final home. It has been a perfect match. DeDe enjoys the adoring attention and quiet home life, and our grandma's health has improved. Thank you so much Guelph Humane Society for bringing DeDe into our grandma's life!

Just wanted to give an update about Molson (formerly Elvis the puppy) and Dudley (Chip the kitten). Molson has grown substantially since we adopted him in 2006, he’s now about 85lbs, and very healthy. He loves running to stay active and playing hide and seek with his mom and dad. Dudley we adopted in 2008 as a 4 month old kitten, he was tiny, but has grown to full size and still plays and runs around like a kitten, but is also very cuddly! Dudley and his older brother Stuart are about the same size and love cuddling, Dudley knows that Stuart doesn’t like being scared so Dudley likes hiding and jumping out and scaring Stuart. Molson is the protector, he loves his brothers and is always right close by. All three of them love to play, and Dudley still purrs like a motor-boat. Dudley’s favourite time is dinner and he meows like crazy until he gets his food, and Molson still loves to play fetch, and loves to show off his tricks when people come over to visit. We are so happy to have been able to adopt these two amazing animals, and Stuart their older brother loves having company all the time. Thanks again Guelph Humane Society!!!

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to give you an update on Ally (formerly Leonie). I adopted her just over two weeks ago. This adorable picture of Ally and my husky Niska was taken on her first day at home. The two of them bonded instantly. Ally is doing exceptionally well at home with Niska and my other cat Joey. It took Ally and Joey a few days to get used to one another. They are now the best of friends and great companions to one another. Ally has brought a new playful energy to the home which my senior animals are enjoying. We are so happy to have her as part of the family.

Hi,
Just writing to update you on Pancakes the rabbit. She's is doing wonderful! She's such an amazing and funny girl. I love to watch her tear around the room, playing and being silly. She's made quite an impression on my other rabbit Benjamin, she's brought out his playful side. They are having a great time together, they bonded really quickly and are best friends. It's really cute to watch them snuggle. Thank you so much for taking care of Pancakes while she was waiting for her forever home. Attached are some pictures of her.
Also, if you have any background information on her, I'm interested to know more about her, like how she found her way to your shelter. I'm also interested in knowing anything that could help with her medical records (i.e. if you happened to know her age).
Thanks again for taking such good care of Pancakes! She's a very special girl.

Dear Guelph Humane Society
Please allow me to share how adopting one Mr. Squiggles has changed our lives and the life of a sweet cat. We decided it was time to adopt again more than two years following the loss of our cat Hobo to a stroke. I have a heart condition and we were desperately seeking to bring a companion into our home that would not only complete our family but save the life of an animal needing a loving home. We visited Mr. Squiggles where he was being fostered and fell in love immediately. He was indeed a gentlemen and allowed the children to hug him and hold him. I would like to think we picked him but I believe we picked each other. With in a few days we had our Mr. Squiggles at home with us. The first day he arrived home we picked a quite space in our master bedroom for him providing his food and litter and a safe place for him to sleep. The first day he made himself comfortable and was purring with every touch. He is a wonderful cat and he completes our family indeed. Within twenty-four hours he was eating well and snuggling with the girls and myself during family stories. He loves to climb is daddy’s arms for a cuddle. Adopting a pet from the humane society has changed our lives and if you are looking to make a difference in the life of an animal at the same time completing your life, please call your local humane society. Together we can save the life of an unwanted animal. It will truly change your life.
Donna
Hi there,
My name is Alison and I adopted a dog named Lincoln about 4 years ago from the Guelph Humane Society (We're in Cambridge though). Just in case there is anyone who still works there that will remember him, I've attached some pictures, and wanted them to know he's still doing great! He had surgery last May to remove 2 small lumps (turned out to be nothing) and 2 damaged teeth. I was terrified but he came out of the surgery just fine and recovered quickly. He is healthy and still very active. We have a large backyard now and he loves to be in it with us. He talks more and more the older he gets it seems...I'm told that's the husky part of him. He's really funny and I think he's the only dog in the world that LOVES going to the vet. He lets me take care of him and he doesn't even mind having his teeth brushed! I love how he wags his tail when you smile at him, like he's smiling back or something- he's just the sweetest pup I could go on forever I think. Anyways, thanks again for the privilege, we love him very much!
Alison

Hi Shelley & all the staff at the Guelph Humane Society,
I wanted to give you an update on Toby. We brought him home on Dec. 23rd and were so excited to have him in time for Christmas. My mom who lives with me, and myself were a little apprehensive about how Toby was going to adjust to his new home, since he didn't really want to get in the car to come home with me to begin with. I picked him up and put him in the back seat and sat with him back there so he wouldn't be scared (my daughter drove). She thought he was going to bite me when I picked him up to put him in the car. He didn't bite, but he was really scared. He sat on the floor of the back seat most of the way home. I've never seen a dog do that, but maybe that's where he was told to sit by his previous owners.
When we brought him in the house, he had a good look around and greeted my Mom apprehensively. My daughter, son-in-law, and their dog Titan had come down for Christmas, and within a few minutes Jeff came in with Titan from their walk. Toby took to Titan instantly, and that seemed to help him settle in his new home. He was quite nervous at first, but with Titan for a buddy, and lots of people to go for walks with, it didn't take him long to settle in.
Toby loves his new bed. He sleeps in his bed in my room. During the week we get up at 6:00 and go for a 1/2 hour walk. On the weekends we sleep in and go out a bit later. He loves the dog park, and he loves to play ball. I've had to get a chuck-it so I can throw the ball far enough and fast enough; I've never seen a dog run as fast as he can. He can outrun just about every dog at the dog park. At the same time, he can be the quiet dog in the house - doesn't bark when the doorbell rings, doesn't beg at the table, but lays underneath until we're done. He sits, shakes a paw, stays, lays down, etc. Someone has spent some time training him. When I call him, he comes. He's so quiet we sometimes forget he's around.
We're still waiting for him to do something bad, and it's been a month. We can't believe that someone gave him up. He's such a sweet dog, and he loves to give kisses and loves to please.
I've sent along a few pictures of Toby in his new home. Mom and I want you to know how grateful we are that Toby came into our lives, and how much we love having him as part of our family.
Thanks again for everything,
Annitta & Ellen

Hi
Just wanted to let you all know Tiki is settling in nicely. He has fit in very well in our home. My 3 boys just love him. He is very friendly and loves to come out and take food from your hand :) Thank you very much for your help. Tiki is a great little hamster.

Here are two photos of our lovely roosters that we currently had here at the shelter. This is there new adopted home and they are looking very happy and content! The staff is going to miss their crowing throughout the day. They amused, and made many people smile that visted the shelter.

Hi everyone and Happy New Year
We thought you would enjoy seeing some pics of how well Oona is fitting into our family. She is a lovely little girl and everyone loves her.
Thank you all for the work you do
Cheers to 2010
The Inker farm

I was asked today by the young lady on your reception desk to forward some photos of our cat, which we adopted back in late November from the Humane Society. His name was Rusty at that time but, my wife wasn't satisfied with it and, after being an Isidore for a couple of weeks, he is now, Leo (which will be his final name as it really suits him (he's a very patrician cat).

Here is a picture of Twix…who has been renamed Beatrix Potter. We adopted her at the beginning of October, 2009. While she started out rather timidly, she has grown into a lively, fun cat who loves to play with her feather toy, look out the windows, and even play with the water in the tub! We love her dearly, and are so grateful she is part of our (now rather large) cat family, along with Nick and Nora Charles and Lillian Hellman (who are all Guelph Humane Society adoptees). Thanks so much for taking care of her.
Cheers, Lois and Rob

One year ago today, I brought home Dixie (now re-named Emerson) from the GHS. I thought it would be a fitting time to send a little update. She is doing wonderfully here. She keeps busy most of the day monitoring all the windows for birds. She sometimes takes a break from that tiring job to knock pens off of desks and tables. While she is not really a lap cat, sometimes the mood strikes her, and I'm lucky enough to get a bit of a cuddle. She also loves perching on my shoulders to be carried around the house. Emerson has really come out of her shell and just loves everyone who comes over to my house. She especially loves board games night, when she jumps up on the table and "helps" by sitting in the box or biting/batting at the game pieces.
Thanks again for all the work you do. I couldn't have found a better cat for me, and I just love her to bits!
Christina and Emerson (adopted Nov. 11, 2008)

I just wanted to send an update on Buddy, who I took home on the 17th of October. Buddy is doing really well. At first he was a little unsure of his new home and situation, but he's really settling in well! He's not shy about asking for some attention (he's quite a snuggler), and he loves playing with a squeaky ball. He walks really well on the leash and has started to meet a few other dogs that he likes. He gets really excited about walks, and even though he's older, he definitely has the stamina for an hour-long walk! He also likes to carry things around in his mouth – if we walk to the pet store, he will carry home a big treat or toy (maybe he thinks it's his job!). At first he was a little shy about meeting new people, but he has come out of his shell and loves to say hi to anyone we meet on the walk (and everyone comments on what a lovely, laid-back and sweet boy he is). He's very happy hanging around in the backyard watching out for squirrels, and although his intake form said that he is a 'climber', he shows no signs of being interested in trying to get out of the yard. He's an incredibly well-behaved and sweet dog, and he's lovely to have around. I'm really happy to have him!

Hello there!
It's been almost 2 months now since Shankley (once known as Bentley) has come to his new home! He fits in perfectly, he was meant to be apart of our family! He LOVES going for walks, having his belly rubbed, and chasing squirrels! It took a few days for him to settle in, and for him to realise that he was in his forever home with family that will love him forever! At first he seemed hesitant to play with his toys, as if he wasnt to sure if he was allowed to play with them or not, but after a few days he doesnt put them down! His favourite is his little pink piggie that he brings everywhere with him, out in the back yard, everywhere in the house, even to bed! His favourite past times are playing fetch and tag in the back yard...and having his belly rubbed of course! My favourite part of the day is waking up to Shankley giving me a big slobbery kiss and his anticipation for his morning walk! Shankley is very well behaved and was house trained! He knows basic obedience and we are working with a private obedience trainer once every 2 weeks to learn even more!
We live with three of my best friends, and they love him to death. They are always playing together, and Shankley adores them! My boyfriend Ryan and Shankley have an amazing connection, the absoloutly love eachother . Whenever Ryan comes to visit, they dont leave eachothers side! Whenever we go home to Barrie, Shankley gets to hang out with Ryans Newfoundland dog 'Diesel'. They get a long great and are always playing! Diesel is three years old, and we think that he also acts as a mentor to Shankley. Shankley and my dog Tuk (husky/shepard) also get along great. Tuk is older, 7 1/2 years old, so it is more of a chilled atmoshpere, which is great after spending the afternoon playing with Diesel! Shankley also loves going for car rides! He loves going on adventures, and we bring him everywhere we go! Just the other week, Ryan and I took him to the womens varsity rugby team at the university, and we dressed him up in a guelph gryphons t-shirt! Believe it or not, he also loves going to the vets! They absoloutly love Shankley and even call to check up on him! I think Shankley loves the treats he gets there!
When we brought Shankley home, we were very careful with his bandages from his dew claw removal and from being neutered. Both healed very succesfully and were off the following weekend!
Needless to say, Shankley is the best thing that has happened to me and ryan, my family and my roommates. He is constantly wagging his tale and making us smile! He is extremly loyal and loving.
Thank-you for giving us the opportunity to allow Shankley into our lives and give him the best one he could possibly have!
Love, Jillian and Shankley!

Hello,
I just wanted to send some pictures your way and to let you know that "Benjamin" - renamed Porter, is doing very well. He is very happy here with my cat Smokey, and I think Smokey is a lot happier too now that Porter is here. I always catch them snuggling and grooming each other. At night they love to chase each other around the house:) Porter is still as much a suck as he was at the GHS, he just loves to be picked up and given attention. However, he is a little sneaker at the door when I go to leave (no worries though, I have a double door so he doesn't manage to get outside!) Thank you so much for such a great companion!
If you still have the contact info for the woman who dropped Porter and his littermates off to the Humane Society, would you please forward her this e-mail and pictures?
Thank you again,
Erica

Hey y’all it’s Kitty here, A.K.A. ( Bon Jovi ) Just wanted to let everyone know that I’m truly living the life of a rock star. It's been about 3& 1/2 months here & I love my new home! I spend my days fighting bears, sleeping in lux linens, lounging in shoe piles, and packing for the road… lol My family is so grateful to have me. We are all so happy and thankful to the Guelph Humane Society! Keep up the fantastic work and I’ll catch up with you all later. I have to run now I can hear the crowd calling my name…
Sincerely, Kitty & Family.

Amadeus - Sept 2, 2009
This photo was taken two days after we adopted Amadeus, while he was still in his shy, exploratory phase. Now, a week later, he has us trained and he romps around like he's been here forever. We enjoy watching his funny antics and love his cuddles and his joy in our petting. It feels like we all belonged together from the start. With thanks to the staff and volunteers at the Guelph Humane Society for helping make our family complete.

Hello!
We wanted to give you an update on Kira (aka Alexandria). She's been a part of our family for almost four weeks, and we can't imagine life without her. She is doing great! Kira is very smart - she's learned some commands very quickly, such as to sit and wait until we say "OK" for a treat or her food....and she sure loves her food and treats!! Kira also loves sticks. We live in the country and have a pile of branches and sticks...and she loves to pick out and carry the biggest one she can find! She loves to fetch the sticks...and also loves to chew on them and peel the bark.... and she has also found most of the hockey pucks that are buried over our lawn! We have just started training classes, but she is doing great! By the way the vet says she was over 6 months (and she didn't mind being at the vet's for her shot....because she got treats!). We try to take her with us wherever we go - she loves to go where there are big dogs to play with and lots of property to run around in! And she loves going to the dump - they always give her a treat there as well! Everyone that meets Kira thinks she's a great dog...and a good looking dog....and they all have different ideas about what kind of dog she is - we've had people say that she has husky, basenji, collie (border, smooth-coated), hound...and some have even suggested beagle or doberman... It makes for an interesting discussion, but it doesn't really matter to us... Kira's unique and we love her!! She had a rough start to her life, but we're sure she loves her new home and family as much as we love her!! Thanks for bringing us together!
Hi All,
Just a short note to let you all know that Rocky the Rabbit, adopted by us last week is doing extremely well. He has come out of his shell a lot more and is so happy to run around the house. He even asked for a chase from my daughter by hoping up in the air and shaking his bum, then looks back at her to see if she is chasing...if not he will do it again until she does. It is very cute to watch. He loves his veggies and is wonderful about using his litter box!! He is such a handsome boy and we are so happy to have him as a part of our family.
Thanks again

Hi Guelph Humane Society,
I would like to thank you for introducing us to Redford (aka Kendall). We adopted him in Feb 09 and he became an instant member of the family. He was so comfortable, cuddly and friendly right from the start, we couldn't believe it. He is the only cat I've ever known who will come when you call him and cuddle in your lap. He is so relaxed (even the vet said he was 'chilled out') and such an easygoing guy, but still really playful in his golden years.
We love him so much and now can't picture our life without him. I can't believe how lucky we were to adopt him.
Thank you for making that possible!
Catherine and Steve

We just celebrated three years with Mom and Dad!!! They adopted us just before Canada Day three years ago! They still think we are the best girls in the world and they take very good care of us. We play tug-of-war with our rope toys nearly every day, except when it has rained and mom says the ground is too muddy. I, Copper, love to go for car-rides and like to supervise any work that dad is doing. I, Casey, love to stay home and 'look after the house' and be a pretty couch-potato or play high-five when lying on my back. We are both very happy all the time.
Mom and Dad send their love and thanks to you all at the shelter.
Copper and Casey

Just a quick note to thank everyone there and let you know that Polypocket is doing great! She has settled into our home so quickly - it was almost as if she was saying "what took you so long to come get me?" She is very affectionate and gives us lots of kisses. Her scratching post training is going well which is good considering all those extra claws. We love her very much - it's hard to believe we've only had her one week! Please find attached a couple of pictures.
Thanks again,
Christine & Scott

Just thought I would share a picture with Cocoa (Tinker Bell) and Charlie.
It took a few weeks, but now they just love each other. They play in the back yard daily. Cocoa is a very fast runner, and can take very sharp turns. Charlie has a hard time keeping up with her.
Our family loves these two, and we are very happy to have added Cocoa to our home. They travel with us to the country where they run free for hours every week. The girls take both dogs for walks, and they both make great companions.
Thank you for all your help and support in making this adoption happen. Cocoa is a very welcomed addtion by all of us.

Hello,
I adopted Riley about 4 months ago from you guys and I just wanted to send a couple pictures of him! He is doing so great. Such a nice dog. He is getting along awesome with us and our other dog. He is extremely trusting now. He is a totally different dog from who he was when I first picked him up. As happy as can be!
Thank you so much,
We couldn’t picture our life without him!

Dear GHS,
This was definitely a very Happy Beginning for us; we adopted Harley in January 2008(a bit over due sorry) and right away Harley has made a great addition to our family along with our other dog Cedes. He has come a long way from being the dog that was describe as having a black cloud hanging over him for his three month stay at the Humane Society. It is so hard to believe it took that long for him to finally be adopted; but for our sake I’m not complaining. He is just an amazing dog that loves life and everything it has to offer like squirrels and cats!! Well maybe not them but everything else. We can't imagine our lives without Harley in it. Thank you to the Guelph Humane Society for everything.

Thanks so much for the opportunity to adopt Poppy (I renamed her from "Sheila") She settled in quickly and gets along really well with my other animals. Clara, my 15-year-old dog (also a Border Collie/Cattle Dog cross) has a new lease on life. She and Bob, my tabby cat, actually play, which is a surprise given Bob's sometimes testy personality. She loves going for walks at Goldies Mill and has tried drinking out of the Speed, although she hasn't yet gone in. She's getting better at meeting other dogs, although she does tend to take the offense as her first resort. We'll do some one-to-one training to deal with that.
Here are some photos.
